Councilmember Cheylynda Barnard
Fighting for the people of Moreno Valley.
Cheylynda Barnard has served on the Moreno Valley City Council since 2022, representing the residents of District 4. She is a proven leader within our community with a history of fighting for our families.
Cheylynda has taken on some of the biggest challenges our community faces and she will continue to do so once re-elected. From tackling warehouse growth to ensuring our neighborhoods and parks are safe and secure to expanding access to senior and family programs across the City — Cheylynda fights for us.
Cheylynda worked for 9 years as a social worker with the County of Riverside, where she investigated abuse and neglect against our seniors. She worked her way up the ranks of the Service Employee International Union (SEIU) Local 721, serving as Vice President. Through this work she ran effective and impactful organizing campaigns to improve wages, benefits and working conditions for working families.
She currently serves as the Executive Director of the University of California, Riverside Labor and Community Center where she works to find new ways to help uplift the working class. She is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Riverside Community Health Foundation, a leading local nonprofit that works to improve public health outcomes in the region.
Prior to her election to the City Council, Cheylynda served on the Arts Commission where she advocated for investment in the arts in Moreno Valley.
Cheylynda has called Moreno Valley home since 2005, and currently lives happily in our community with her husband, Jay, and their two children.
